XSEDE Data Analytics Application Support Specialist
The Data Analytics Application Support Specialist will provide extended collaborative support for XSEDE users developing algorithms utilizing data analytics and mining software and technologies. This includes solving and/or debugging complex problems (involving algorithm development and database/data issues) and providing solutions to users who develop algorithms. The incumbent will also be responsible for teaching this expertise to the XSEDE community, including internal training of ECSS staff.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Identifies and reviews XSEDE user projects expected to benefit from the deployment and application of data analytics and mining software and technologies.
- Leads the planning and execution of the subset of such projects recommended by the XSEDE allocation reviewers for extended collaborative support, or identified by ECSS management as Community Capabilities projects.
- Responsible for performing a variety of aspects of data-intensive computing support and providing outreach and assistance on data management and analytics.
- Provides expert programming assistance to ECSS users in efficient program design methods, software project development techniques, finding and fixing bugs and performance tuning. Programming tasks will include parallel code development using languages such as C/C++, MPI, OpenMP, Parallel Java, MPIPython, Python, MapReduce, R, SAS, SPSS, etc. for a diverse range of applications in science, engineering, and the humanities.
- Develops documentation and training content for the XSEDE community (both users and staff) to build their expertise in the identification, deployment, and application of data analytics and mining software and technologies.
- Teaches this content to ECSS staff, other XSEDE stakeholders, XSEDE users and prospective users, as assigned.
Key Skills/Knowledge:
- Master's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or field(s) germane to the scope of this position.
- Demonstrated experience developing programs in languages or tools such as R, Weka, RapidMiner, KNIME,Octave, Matlab, ODM, SPSS, Mahout, etc. to provide data mining and analytic solutions that have been successfully applied to scientific, engineering, and/or scholarly research.
- Demonstrated experience in parallel code development using languages such as C/C++, MPI, OpenMP, Parallel Java, MPIPython, Python, MapReduce, R, SAS, SPSS, etc. for a diverse range of applications in science, engineering, and the humanities.
- Experience with hardware and software systems that enable leading-edge data analytics and mining solutions.
- Ability to interact and communicate effectively with users, and with co-workers within XSEDE.
- Experience in organizing and running training courses, giving presentations and interacting with participants at scientific conferences and other outreach events.
