XSEDE Scientific Workflow Application Support Specialist
The Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE) is seeking an individual with a proven track record as a Scientific Workflow Application Support Specialist for a one-year appointment (renewable) to the Extended Collaborative Support Service (ECSS) of the XSEDE project funded by the National Science Foundation. ECSS teams members of the XSEDE user community with expert staff members for an extended period to work together to solve challenging research and education problems through the application of cyberinfrastructure. The position can be filled via a consulting contract or on a sub-award basis, depending on an applicant's particular circumstance, and compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
This position will provide Scientific Workflow Application expertise to the ECSS team, and reports to the Co-Directors of ECSS.

Key Responsibilities:
- The successful candidate will be responsible for the selection, adaptation and deployment of programmatic workflow solutions as part of ECSS projects and activities, to maximize the productivity of XSEDE users.
- Identifies and reviews XSEDE user projects expected to benefit from the deployment and application of programmatic scientific workflow engines and tools connecting a distributed set of digital resources and services, including those integrated by XSEDE.
- Leads the planning and execution of the subset of such projects recommended by the XSEDE allocation reviewers for extended collaborative support services (ECSS). This will entail working with the XSEDE architecture; software development and integration; and operation teams to select, test and deploy the most suitable tools for the users' application.
- Proposes new programmatic workflow tools for evaluation by the XSEDE Technology Investigation Service.
- Develops documentation and training content for the XSEDE community (both users and staff) to build their expertise in the identification, deployment, and application of programmatic workflow tools.
- Teaches this content to ECSS staff, other XSEDE stakeholders, XSEDE users and prospective users.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or field(s) germane to the scope of this position.
- Advanced computing skills in Unix environments.
- Experience with one or more supercomputing systems.
- Developer-level experience with at least 2 programmatic workflow systems, such as Kepler, Pegasus, Taverna, etc.
- Experience in the successful application of programmatic workflow tools to scientific, engineering, and/or scholarly research.
- Experience in technical support for large-scale, collaborative scientific, engineering, and/or scholarly research projects.
- Ability to interact and communicate effectively with users, and also with co-workers within XSEDE.
- Experience in organizing and running training courses, giving presentations and interacting with participants at scientific conferences and other outreach events.
