Joint Institute for Computational Science (JICS) and the Interdisciplinary Graduate Minor in Computational Sciences Seminar Series – University of Tennessee
Fall 2011
This fall, staff from many parts of the University will participate in a series co-hosted by the Joint Institute for Computational Science (JICS) and the Interdisciplinary Graduate Minor in Computational Sciences program. These organizations will offer a series of tutorials and seminars designed to provide UTK students, faculty and staff with practical information about using its resources, as well as other associated opportunities for participation and collaboration. JICS is the joint UTK/Oak Ridge National Lab organization, which is the home of the National Institute for Computational Sciences (NICS). NICS is a key resource provider in the National Science Foundation’s XSEDE system, hosting Kraken (a Cray XT5) and serving scientific users around the country. NICS is also home to the Remote Data Analysis and Visualization Center (RDAV), a separate NSF award in the XSEDE program. UTK faculty projects have already received over 27 Million hours of computing allocation on NICS computing resources so far and the demand for them is expected to increase.
All the seminars and tutorials in the series will be given by NICS and RDAV personnel and will be held on Thursdays starting at 2pm, in Claxton 233. A more detailed list of session topics is below. All interested students, faculty and staff are welcome and encouraged to attend. For more information, contact Jim Ferguson.
