He received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his commitment to higher education, college readiness and promoting greater participation of underrepresented students in the sciences. By way of background, Richard Tapia is a professor at Rice University in the Computational and Applied Mathematics Department and a national leader in the field of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and research. Professor Tapia's efforts have been recognized through numerous awards and recognitions, including the National Medal of Science by President Obama, and most recently, the National Science Board's Vannevar Bush Award, among several others!
