Upcoming Webinar: Beyond Rigor: Better Ways to Learn What Works and What Doesn’t in STEM Formal and Informal Education

Wednesday, February 5, 2014 - 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM CST

•            What can bomb sniffing dogs teach us about why we don’t know more about what works and what doesn’t in formal and informal science education?

•             Does writing down their sex and race prior to taking a math test impact people’s math test scores?

•             Can the type of room students are in change their interest in science and science related careers?

Join Eric Jolly, Ph.D., President of the Science Museum of Minnesota and Pat Campbell, Ph.D., President of Campbell-Kibler Associates, Inc., for a one-hour webinar on February 5th at 3:00 p.m. (CST), as they answer these questions and others. Be part of a discussion about why we don’t know more about what works and what doesn’t in informal and formal education. Learn about steps we all can follow to get better, more accurate information about ‘best practices” for educators and others seeking to improve student interest and achievement in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education. Drs. Jolly and Campbell will also introduce participants to free tips and resources available on their new, NSF funded, website, BeyondRigor.org and, of course, respond to comments and questions.

Eric Jolly, Ph.D., is the president of the Science Museum of Minnesota. Dr. Jolly previously served as senior scientist and vice president for the Education Development Center and was a founding partner of the national “Collaboration for Equity” project and co-director of “Access by Design,” a technology project of the National Science Foundation. In October 2013, President Barack Obama appointed Dr. Jolly to the National Museum and Library Services Board, a voluntary post he will hold until December 2016.
