As the premier distributed cyberinfrastructure for open scientific research in the United States, XSEDE delivers digital resources – supercomputers, visualization systems, high-throughput systems, data collections, science gateways, and more. Thousands of researchers, educators, and students use these resources every month.
XSEDE13, the second annual conference for the XSEDE community, will showcase the discoveries, innovations, and achievements of those who use, build, and support XSEDE resources and other cyberinfrastructure resources around the world. The theme of XSEDE13 is Gateway to Discovery, which highlights the impact of community-designed web interfaces that provide transparent access to XSEDE resources and services. However, submissions on non-gateway topics in science and engineering research; systems and middleware technology; software and software environments; and training, education and outreach services (TEOS) are welcome in all parts of the conference.
Three new features are being added to the conference for XSEDE13:
A half-day devoted to the biosciences
To highlight important new application areas for high-end infrastructure, as well as to leverage industry strengths in the San Diego region, the conference will feature a half day devoted to new discoveries, software and technology developments, and educational activities in the biosciences. The half day will feature plenary talks from bioscience leaders in academia and industry and a panel discussion regarding latest research in the field.
A "Lightning Talk" plenary session
XSEDE13 is excited to introduce a new 90-minute plenary session format featuring "lightning talks." The lightning talks will showcase papers and abstracts from the four technical program tracks – Science and Engineering, Technology, Software and Software Environments, and TEOS. Outstanding papers and abstracts will be selected for this plenary session by the program committee, based on broad appeal and potential impact on the entire XSEDE community. Each lightning talk will consist of two components: (1) an eight-minute presentation highlighting the research, and (2) a special poster session immediately following the lightning talk session. Authors selected for the lightning talk session will be informed when acceptances are issued.
Publication of selected papers in a journal
Selected papers from all the tracks will be invited to extend the manuscripts to be considered for publication in a special issue of the journal of Concurrency and Computation Practice and Experience. After the XSEDE13 conference, the program committee will connect with the authors of these papers regarding formatting, submission, and review requirements for the journal.
It should be noted that the biosciences focused half-day and the lightning talk plenary session are not tracks, and authors should submit to the appropriate tracks (see below) of their choice and follow the submission and formatting guidelines.
Students are strongly encouraged to submit their research work to XSEDE13. To be considered as a student submission, the main work must be done by the student, the student must be the primary author, and the student must present the paper/abstract or the poster at the conference. Some student financial assistance may be available upon NSF grant funding. See "Students" in the "Participate" section of the conference website at: https://www.xsede.org/web/xsede13/students for details and information on how to apply for assistance.
Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings, which will be archived.
